After a long trip down Central America I have finally found the best hostel in my whole trip. There is no doubt that Gran Kahuna has everything they claim and much more. Just the place is beautiful and clean with all the amenities of any hostel, and the staff is excellent and always smiling. And whenever I had a problem they would offer much more than just helpful words, they would organize any trip I was wanting to do. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for something my settled back, without the noise that many of the hostels in Bocas del Toro suffer from.
Hi,
I stayed at Gran Kahuna December 2008 and had a great time. I took scuba classes and recieved a discount for the classes because I was a guest at the hostel. I also enjoyed the way I could get a good night sleep because it was quiet at 10PM. I enjoyed the people and the guests, everyone seemed to get along and just naturally meet and mingle. And lastly I took some great surfing lessons from one of the hostel’s surfing teachers Piler, which was one of Panama’s surfers. The classes were fun and the surfboard was in great shape. Fun place!
I stayed at Gran Kahuna recently, just arrived from Bocas del Toro and loved my time there. The staff helped me with any of the activites I wanted to do by recommending me to the best operators on the island while getting me discounts. The place was really nice and modern with cool chill music and a fun crowd. I recommend this place for anyone looking for something really clean and well kept.
i was planning on staying in bocas for 5 days and ended up staying there for 5 weeks! gran kahuna is one of the best hostels i have ever stayed at, it became like my second home and i never wanted to leave… its not in the lonely planet book yet cos its new but GO THERE you will LOVE IT!!!!

I stayed at Gran Kahuna a year ago, and Im still recommending it to friends and remembering how amazing my stay there was.
I havent stayed at a cleaner, more inviting, more comfortable hostel. The people who work there are way more than employees – they are part of the experience. From the beds, to the showers, to the hammocks, to the movies, to Iguana, to Hospital Point, to the music, the alcohol and the couches – this place is the best. Just GO.
